Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that enables the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through free legal tools.
CC licenses let you easily change your copyright terms from the default of “all rights reserved” to “some rights reserved”.
Creative Commons licenses are not an alternative to copyright. They work alongside copyright and enable you to modify copyright terms to best suit your needs.
Before you begin to search for and use Creative Commons Images, review this guide for Creative Commons Image Users, published by Ars Technica.
Thank you to Ana Torres at Bern Dibner Library, NYU Division of Libraries, NYU Tandon School of Engineering for the use of much of her libguide on copyright and fair use.
