Get to know your library

The Macdonald DeWitt Library at SUNY Ulster sits at the heart of the campus. It is one of the most popular gathering spaces for students. There are group study spaces, quiet zones, computers and printing, and of course plenty of resources to ensure your academic success.

DeWitt Library FAQs

What is DiscoverDeWitt?
DiscoverDeWitt is an online search tool that allows you to keyword search DeWitt Library's holdings. Database content, the library catalog (books and DVDs) and even Subject Guides are included in your results list. Not everything the Library subscribes to is searched by DiscoverDeWitt. How do I find a book?
Search the Catalog to find a book in the collection. Go to the Library tab of my.sunyulster.edu and select the Catalog Only checkbox of the DiscoverDeWitt search box to find mostly books (some ebooks, periodicals, and DVDs too). Use the Limit by Source Type option on the left side of your results list to limit to a specific format.
What do I need to take out a book?
Your SUNY Ulster ID serves as your library card. Community members may join for the library for free with a valid photo ID and proof of address. For more information about borrowing library materials, see the Library Policies & Services page.
How do I renew my book(s)?
You can renew online by selecting My Account from Catalist - the Library Catalog. Login in with your my.sunyulster.edu username and password. View more detailed instructions here.
How do I renew my Inter-Library Loan book(s)?
If your book is not overdue, log on to ILLiad to renew. If the book is overdue, contact the ILL Department at 845-687-5212. Renewals are at the discretion of the lending institution.
What do I need to borrow a laptop?
Laptops are for use in the library only. You must present a valid Student ID and a 2nd picture ID to be held at the Circulation Desk while you have the laptop. At the beginning of each semester, you must also sign a Laptop Liability Agreement.
How do I access the WiFi on campus?
Wifi is available for current students, faculty, and staff only. Log in to the network with your my.sunyulster.edu username and password. Follow OIT's instructions for registering personal devices.
How long is the loan period for books and DVDs?
Books have a 3 week loan period and DVDs are loaned for 7 days at a time. To renew, speak to someone at the Circulation Desk (687-5213) or log on to your library account and Renew Items. For more information about borrowing library materials, see the Library Policies guide.
What are the library's hours?
The DeWitt Library Hours can be found online from the Library tab of my.sunyulster.edu or under "About the Library" in this site's navigation menu.
Who do I ask for help finding/citing sources for a paper?
SUNY Ulster Librarians are available during Library Hours at the Reference Desk. You can email (askref@sunyulster.edu), call (687-5208) or visit in person. Take a look at the DeWitt Library's Citation Guides for quick reference information. If you would like to schedule a longer time to sit down with a librarian, make an appointment online. You can also chat with a librarian from participating libraries with AskUs 24/7.
