Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice: Introduction

SUNY Ulster - Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Statement

Diversity - Equity - Inclusion logo

At SUNY Ulster, we value the diversity of every member of our campus community. We make every effort to promote a welcoming employment and educational environment that appreciates every person regardless of ethnicity, age, religion, gender, disability, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and national origin. Our mission is to encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion through on-campus programs and activities, and to welcome a variety of voices, viewpoints, and backgrounds on campus. We are building a culture of inclusiveness, a sense of community, and a respect for diverse beliefs, thoughts, and individual contributions.

SUNY Ulster - Anti Racist Statement

We explicitly and publicly affirm our identity as an anti-racist academic institution.

We resolve that our anti-racism commitment be reflected in the life and culture of our college through our policies, programs and practices.

We pledge to purposefully identify, discuss and challenge issues of bias, prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination associated with racism.

We commit to explore and address any current inequitable practices and to develop and work to implement strategies that dismantle racism within all aspects of our departments, college, and community.

We acknowledge that racism exists and, in its various forms, can be conscious/intentional or unconscious/unintentional. Identifying racism as an issue does not automatically mean those involved in the act are racist or intended the negative impact.

We resolve to unify our college community through initiatives that promote improved race-related dialogue and group dynamics.
