Policies & Services: Library Accessibility

Accessibility of Library Resources and Services

The Macdonald DeWitt Library is committed to providing all students, faculty and staff equitable access to library resources and services. If you need assistance while in the library, please speak with any library staff member. For further assistance regarding library accessibility, please contact Kari Mack, Director of Library Services (mackk@sunyulster.edu or 845-687-5214).

Physical Accessibility in the Library

Parking: The Macdonald DeWitt Library is centered at the heart of the Stone Ridge campus. Handicap parking for the main entrance is available in Lots B and C, with elevator access available in Hardenburgh Hall and Clinton Hall, respectively. Handicap parking for the rear entrance through Burroughs Hall is available in Lot A. Clinton Hall and Burroughs Hall have push-button activated entry doors.

Elevators: The elevator is currently out of service. Use the Burroughs entrance for access to the lower level and the main entrance for access to the first level. The second floor is only accessible by stairs. The mezzanine from the second floor is accessible by a key-operated lift. Ask for the lift key at the Circulation Desk. Please ask a library staff member to retrieve any books from the 2nd or 3rd floors, or use the Request Item option in our Library Catalog.

Restrooms: Accessible restrooms are located on the main level (1st floor) and both the men's and women's restrooms have push-button automatic doors.

Access: Library staff will pull materials upon request when the materials are not physically accessible for any reason. For example if materials are too high or too low on a shelf, or if the call numbers are difficult to see. Physical materials may also be requested through the online Library Catalog.

Wheelchair-accessible study carrels and tables are available throughout the library. The main level has a computer station that can be raised to standing height as well as an empty desk that can be raised or lowered.

In Case of Emergency: There is an emergency call box on the second floor of the library. Building alarms are audible and visual. If possible, please proceed to the nearest exit. If you are unable to exit on your own, move to safe place and find an emergency call box or call Public Safety at 845-687-5221.

Library Vendor Accessibility Statements

The library makes every attempt to ensure that our vendors are in compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Below are the accessibility statements or policies provided by our vendors.

For more detailed information, the SUNY Office of Library and Information Services maintains a list of centrally managed library vendors and their platforms, as well as other commonly used library vendors. For each vendor, they link to their accessibility statements, contact person, VPAT®s, alternative access request options, and any other available accessibility information.
