Academic Year 2024-25:
Suggestion: I need more manga books please
Response: Thanks for the suggestion! We're always working on growing our popular reading collection to give our community more great options for fun reading. We've added some new titles already and plan to keep adding more. If there’s something specific you’d like to read, reach out to a librarian—they can help you request it or get it through interlibrary loan.
Suggestion:Play soft music in library, like classical.
Response: We understand that some people like background music. However, the library must accommodate everyone and some may find it distracting. Our recommendation is to use headphones so you can choose what you listen to without impacting others.
Suggestion: In the room with all the books that mountaview is outside of, if more of the desks with lights and outlets could be put in.
Response: Thank you for the feedback. We are always working to improve spaces for students and lighting is an important part of that.
Suggestion:I LOVE the new fit desks upstairs!!! Thank you!!!
Response: We appreciate your feedback!
Suggestion:Keep up the great work.
Response: Thank you!!
Suggestion:The computers (library) are incredibly slow. Please fix this issue.
Response: The machines in the library are due to be evaluated for replacement next academic year.
Suggestion:More color!!! It's too plain!!
Response: I'm happy to report we are awaiting an order of very colorful furniture for the lower level of the library. It should be in place for the fall semseter.
Suggestion:Hire students to extend library hours.
Response: We study usage statistics of the library facility very closely and have piloted special extended hours around midterms and finals. The building usage is very low after 5:30 when evening classes begin. We will continue to monitor the activity and make adjustments if the trend changes. Thank you!
Suggestion:A compliment!
Response: The following wasn't a suggestion but a really nice comment submitted in the suggestion box.
"Nothing. You guys are amazing. Have a nice day!!"
Suggestion:Information about scheduled group activities.
Response: Thank you for your submission.
Every monday morning SUNY Ulster students receive the weekly student life newsletter which showcases the activities and upcoming offerings. If you have a suggestion of a certain kind of scheduled group activity, please send it to the SUNY Ulster Student Government. The SGO information is listed on the Portal on the Campus Life tab.
Suggestion:A majority of the keyboards are missing the little tabs on the back of them which help hold the keyboard in a safe wrist position to type Thanks!. (Fall 2021)
Response: Thank you, the Office of Information Technology was notified and they corrected the situation. We appreciate being alerted to the issue.
Suggestion:Finals week, is the library open regular hours? (Spring 2019)
Response:Thank you for submitting your question. Yes. The regular hours are:
Suggestion: I was told to use the 24-7 Librarian but I don't see the link on the portal page. (Fall 2018)
Response: Thank you for submitting your question. The Library Chat Channel is in the center column on the Library Resources Tab of the Portal. If it is not displaying, please contact us at the library reference desk; 845-687-5208 or stop by the library.
Suggestion: I am a new student this year. One of the first things I noticed in the library is that there are no comics or graphic novels. As an artist and art major these are very important to me. (Fall 2018)
Response: Thank you for submitting your suggestion. We do have a very small collection. In response to your comment, we created a display of graphic novels on the lower level of the library. We reached out to the faculty for additional suggestions and plan to add to the collection!
Suggestion: You guys should get the People's History of the US in here. (Fall 2018)
Response: I'm happy to report we have a copy in the collection. The call number is 973 Z784p 2010
Suggestion: It'd be better for the planet if there were more (noticable) reycling bins on both sides of the library exits. (Spring 2018)
Response: We have ordered new collection bins and will locate them near the exit in the main lobby.
Suggestion: Can you help me get the testing center info? (Spring 2018)
Response: The email address for the testing center is testingcenter@sunyulster.edu. Sonia Levine is the coordinator. You can call Matt Brennie for additional information, (845) 688-6068.
Suggestion: Great place to come and do your assignments for your classes. (Spring 2017)
Response: Thank you! It's great to receive suggestions but we also appreciate positive feedback.
Suggestion: Wall St. Journal, even if digital, would be nice. (Spring 2017)
Response: We are investigating subscribing to the WSJ.
Suggestion: Place needs more computers. (Spring 2017)
Response: Eight new computers will be installed on the second floor (stacks) by the fall semester. The goal is to provide additional computers in a quiet setting.
Suggestion: Use the Library as a Library. Why should I hear 4 different conversations and cell phone talking…… (Spring 2017)
Response: The library provides many different services to students and has about 3000 people passing through the building on a given week. This makes designating the main floor as a quiet area impossible. (I agree that cell phone calls are unacceptable.) In general students’ expectations for college libraries are changing. The library provides space for quiet study but also collaborative work. Students do need quiet areas to concentrate. The top two floors of the library are designated as quiet or silent areas. Eight new computers will be installed on the second floor (stacks) by the fall semester. The goal is to provide additional computers in a quiet setting. (Spring 17)
Suggestion: There's only ONE printer!! Very inconvenient. (Spring 2017)
Response: We have received this comment a lot. An additional printer/copier should be installed in the next two weeks! 3/29/17
Suggestion: We need colored ink ... In a major like Vet Tech and Nursing we need color printed items to study. (Fall 2016)
Response: I have passed on your suggestion to the administration for consideration.
Suggestion: Shhhh! Be quiet this is a library! (Fall 2016)
Response: We have received several comments about noise in the library. Our goal is to maintain silence on the top two floors and allow quiet conversation in the lobby/circulation/reference area and the lower level. We want to accommodate individual study and group work. The library staff will remind students to adhere to the policies as posted.
Suggestion: I am unable to do my online math assignments using library computers. This is due to whatever settings the computers are using. Pearsonstudyingandmastering.com is the website that will not load. (Fall 2016)
Response: I checked with our IT staff and we think that you are not using the correct URL and that is why you are not getting access to the material. Please contact us at 845-687-5208 if you are still having this issue.
Suggestion: What would be great is a children's movie section for those parents like myself continuing their education. (Fall 2016)
Response: The library has a good children's book collection with all the Caldecott and Newbery award winning titles. These were added to the collection to support the Ulster students preparing to be teachers and the children's literature classes. A great additional benefit is that student's can borrow these books to read to their children. I will check with the faculty and see if children's films will support the work in any classes.
Suggestion: I love spending time here! So relaxing, easy to get work done. (Spring 2016)
Response: Thank you! We appreciate the positive feedback.
Suggestion: More computers!! (Spring 2016)
Response: The computer workstations are all filled during the busy part of the day, 10am - 2pm. We will pass your suggestion along to the deans and technology department.
Suggestion: New or Fixed Chairs.........Please (Fall 2015)
Response: We have recieved a couple of requests for new chairs. And, we agree that the chairs need to be replaced. New computer task chairs for students are on an approved list for purchases in the near future.
Suggestion: We need another copier. It took me 20 minutes to print something. (Fall 2015)
Response: The library installed a new printer/copier last year. This machine offers current technology to copy, scan, print and manipulate digital files. In response to your comment and our observations, the library staff started collecting data on lines at the copier/printer in November 2015. The inital data shows that lines do occur but not that frequently. (The chart is included below.) We will continue to track this information to determine if we can justify a request for an additional machine.
