The Partner Librarian Program began in Spring 2017 as an outreach effort to partner every ENG101 and ENG102 student with a librarian. The goals were to encourage students to reach out to librarians during the research process and to increase use of library resources and services. We use targeted outreach to share just-in-time support with students throughout their academic careers. One of the most valuable outcomes was an increased collaboration with individual faculty members. 

The program has since evolved to encompass librarian-faculty collaborations ranging from course and assignment-specific LibGuides to source verification. We would like all faculty and students to see librarians as their partners in developing research skills for the ever-evolving information environment.

• Each student enrolled in ENG101 and ENG102 is assigned a Partner Librarian based on their last name. 
• Students receive targeted emails introducing the program and encouraging them to meet with their Partner Librarian.
• English faculty are asked to remind students they can reach out to their Partner Librarian for help finding secondary sources for their research papers.

Source Verification - Students are required to find specific types of sources for their final research paper.  Librarians present on search techniques to find Specialized Encyclopedia entries, Peer-Reviewed Articles and Biographies from authoritative publishers. They must have their sources approved by a librarian. If the sources are not appropriate, a librarian works with the students to explain why and help them find what they need.

Embedded Librarian - A librarian works in close partnership with faculty and students on their research assignment.  Students are split into groups where they meet with their librarian and faculty member to discuss their paper(s) and strategies for finding resources to support their argument.  Librarians are available for follow up reference sessions with individual students.

In addition, every HUS course has a guide tailored to the course subject matter.

A curated mini collection can be brought to your classroom to allow students to browse and check out books for research projects. This has been successfully deployed for art, fashion and astronomy courses.

In classroom settings, librarians can check out an entire cart of books to a faculty member for use in the classroom. 

In remote or online settings, librarians can assemble a list of titles with links to allow students to request books for pickup.

Librarians have worked with many faculty to develop course and/or assignment specific libguides to support students. Faculty are welcome to suggest resources or to ask librarians to find appropriate material based on course content or assignments.
